Who we are
About Hoku HQ
A grassroots guide for the people of Hawaiʻi nei. From the ʻāina, for the ʻāina.
A hoku is a star. Our kūpuna crossed the Pacific by reading them. Hoku HQ exists to do the same job for the people of Hawaiʻi today: to guide the community toward a pono Hawaiʻi nei.
What we cover
News, weather and alerts, community outreach, local business, know-your-rights legal information, and the stories about our leaders that other outlets will not touch. We cover every island, and the ninth island in Las Vegas too.
Who we answer to
No corporate money. No party. Hoku HQ is not paid by any corporation and has no political ties: not Democrat, not Republican, not any party. We are for Hawaiʻi. We hold every leader to the same standard, whoever they are.
How we work
Every story shows its sources. Public records come first. Tips and screenshots are where we start digging, never what we publish. Anyone we name gets a chance to respond before we post, and every mistake is corrected in public. Read the full standard on how we verify.
Why 1893
On January 17, 1893, the Hawaiian Kingdom was overthrown. We carry the year on our badge so we never forget whose land this is, or what is at stake when power goes unchecked.
Join the fight
Hawaiʻi is worth fighting for, and you can make a difference. Here is how to start.
