Heavy rain and thunderstorms could bring flash flooding. Oʻahu and Maui County face the biggest threat.

A trough moving across the state from the west is pulling in deep tropical moisture. The National Weather Service has every main Hawaiian Island under a Flood Watch until 5 AM Thursday.

What to expect

  • Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms can pop up at any time through Wednesday night.
  • The biggest flood threat is over Oʻahu and Maui County, but every island is at risk.
  • Streams and drainages can overflow. Roads may close, low-lying and urban spots can flood from runoff, and steep areas could see landslides.

Up mauka on the Big Island, a separate High Wind Warning runs for the summit until noon Wednesday.

What you can do

  • Check the forecast before you head out, and again before you drive home.
  • Never drive or walk through moving water. Turn around.
  • Clear your gutters and drains today if you can.
  • If a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area, move to higher ground right away.

Check on your kūpuna and neighbors who live near streams.
